Kinche | Ethiopian Cracked Wheat Breakfast Bowl
Aja Kinche is a wholesome Ethiopian breakfast made from cracked wheat, gently toasted and simmered with care. Traditionally enjoyed with spiced clarified butter, it’s rich in fiber, plant-based protein, and essential minerals. A warm and nourishing start to the day.
Ingredients
• 1 cup cracked wheat (Aja Kinche)
• 2 cups water (adjust for desired texture)
• 2–3 tablespoons niter kibbeh (Ethiopian spiced clarified butter) or butter
• Salt to taste
Instructions
Bring water to a boil and add the cracked wheat.
Reduce heat and simmer for 10–15 minutes, until soft.
Stir in niter kibbeh or butter.
Optional: In our house we like to sauté the cooked kinche with onion and garlic for extra flavor. Add salt and pepper to taste.
Serve hot and enjoy.
